Liposuction in Toronto is a body contouring procedure where fat is removed by suction to restore a sleeker contour to problem areas. It is often used in conjunction with other procedures, such as breast reduction or a tummy tuck, to improve the final contour.
A surgeon targets very specific areas of unwanted fat between the skin and muscle for removal. Sculpting and contouring the patient’s body creates slimmer and more ideal shapes and contours. Liposuction is primarily used to eliminate stubborn areas of fat that have been resistant to diet and exercise, and areas of fat that have accumulated simply due to the aging process. Liposuction surgery can be performed alone or in conjunction with an open procedure to contour the overlying skin. Most liposuction procedures involve making a small incision in the skin and then utilizing various modalities to loosen the fat prior to suctioning the fat through a small metal tube (cannula) and a suction device. If liposuction is performed with a fat transfer procedure, the extracted fat will be purified and then injected into the target area of the body, such as the breast, butt, or face.

Liposuction surgery in Toronto is often used to remove excess fat cells from many areas of the body, including the lower legs, thighs, hips, waist, back, chest, neck, and chin.
Your surgeon will provide you with a detailed assessment during your liposuction consultation to determine if this procedure will meet your goals alone or if it will need to be combined with another procedure to contour the skin.
On the day of your surgical procedure, you will be welcomed into our state-of-the-art facility. Liposuction is typically performed as an outpatient procedure, meaning you can return home the same day. Depending on the size of the treatment area, your provider may use general anesthesia or a local anesthetic to ensure you are comfortable throughout the process.
The surgeon begins by making small incisions in discreet locations near the unwanted fat deposits. A thin tube called a cannula is inserted through these tiny openings to gently loosen the fatty tissue. Using controlled suction, the provider carefully removes the fat cells to sculpt a more desirable shape. Once the desired contour is achieved, the surgical site is protected with a dressing, and most patients are placed into a compression garment to support the new body contours.
Liposuction is designed to treat specific concerns that impact your body shape and confidence:
Liposuction offers the ability to finally address those stubborn "trouble spots" that have persisted for years. Many patients find that after they remove unwanted fat, their clothing fits more comfortably and they feel more confident in form-fitting styles. Because the procedure physically removes fat, those specific fat pockets do not return, making this a long-term investment in your body shape.
Another significant advantage is the versatility of the treatment. Liposuction can be used on many areas of the body, from the chin to the ankles. When performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon at FORM Face + Body, the focus is always on natural-looking results. We strive to create a subtle, proportioned look.

Liposuction is about shaping the body, not about weight loss. Liposuction is not meant for individuals in Toronto with notable weight issues. The results are best when you are near your ideal weight. Diet and exercise should be emphasized before proceeding with these types of procedures.
The following conditions could indicate that liposuction is right for you:
Recovery from a liposuction procedure in Toronto can vary with each person. Pain is mild to moderate. A dressing will be applied to the treated area. When surgery is completed, you will be taken into a recovery area, where you will continue to be closely monitored. You will most likely be wearing a compression garment, usually used to help support and “shrink” the skin. Compression garments are typically worn for 3 weeks, 24 hours a day, and then at night only for the following 3 weeks (some patients may choose to wear them longer). During the first 48 hours following surgery, patients experience varying degrees of swelling. Bruising typically disappears within seven to ten days. Swelling may persist for several months after surgery. Pain medication and antibiotics may be prescribed to help alleviate discomfort and reduce the risk of infection.
Straining, bending over, and lifting should be avoided during the early postoperative period. In many instances, you will be able to resume most of your normal activities within 1 week or less. Return to work, depending on the extent of liposuction and the job duties, can be as early as 1-3 days after surgery if needed. Since the healing process is gradual, you should expect to wait at least several months to get an accurate picture of the results of your surgery. Usually, 90% of the healing will be completed at 1 month after surgery, and the final results are seen after 6 months. The small incisions used for access to the cannula will fade over a number of months, usually becoming barely visible.

You will likely see a change in your body shape shortly after the liposuction surgery, though the most dramatic results appear as the initial swelling fades. Because the healing process is gradual, your new body contours will continue to refine over several months.
By the six-month mark, the final results are usually fully visible, revealing a sleeker and more balanced appearance.
These results are intended to be permanent because the fat cells are surgically removed from the body. However, it is important to maintain a stable weight and a healthy lifestyle to protect your new look. While the treated areas will now have fewer fat cells, a significant weight gain could still affect your overall body weight and shape. Most patients find that their liposuction results serve as a powerful motivation to stick to a balanced diet and regular exercise routine.

Each year, thousands of women and men undergo successful liposuction procedures in Toronto, experience no major problems, and are happy with the results. Significant complications from liposuction are infrequent. However, our goal at FORM Face + Body is to make sure you understand what this surgery involves, including possible risks, complications, and follow-up care. Liposuction poses various risks, including:
Your consultation with your surgeon is designed to maximize your outcomes and minimize complications by ensuring that the appropriate procedure is selected and that you have a full understanding of your pre- and post-operative instructions. Our office is a constant resource for you in this regard and will carefully guide you through this exciting experience.
There are several modalities used to help remove fat more efficiently. Tumescent liposuction involves injecting a fluid to firm the fat and minimize bleeding. Power-assisted liposuction (PAL) uses a vibrating cannula to break up dense fat, while ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL) uses sound waves to liquefy fat cells. We also offer laser-assisted liposuction, which uses thermal energy. During your consultation, your provider will select the best method for your specific anatomy.
Most patients are under general anesthesia or local anesthetic during the surgery, so you will not feel anything during the process. After the procedure, you may feel some soreness or tenderness in the treated area, similar to the feeling of a very intense workout. We provide personalized pain management plans and utilize our wellness infrastructure at FORM to help minimize discomfort and support a smooth recovery.
The safety of our patients is always our top priority. Liposuction is a contouring procedure rather than a weight loss solution, so there are limits on how much fat can be removed at once to ensure a safe recovery. Generally, we focus on the amount that will create the best aesthetic result while maintaining your overall health and safety. Your surgeon will discuss the specific plan for your body during your visit.
The success of liposuction depends largely on your skin’s elasticity and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. If your skin is firm, it will typically shrink to fit your new, slimmer contour. However, if you have significant excess skin before the procedure, your surgeon might recommend combining liposuction with another treatment, such as a tummy tuck or a thigh lift, to ensure the final result is smooth and tight.
If you gain weight after surgery, the remaining fat cells in your body can still expand. Maintaining a stable weight through a healthy lifestyle is the best way to ensure your results stay beautiful for a lifetime. 5-10 pounds is within a “normal” weight range.
