What are Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels are topical solutions applied to the skin to intentionally remove damaged outer layers. The process stimulates the body’s natural healing response, forcing the growth of new, healthy cells. At FORM, we categorize our peels into three distinct tiers of intensity:

  1. Light (Superficial) Peels: Utilizing AHAs or BHAs (like Glycolic or Salicylic acid) to refresh the epidermis. Perfect for a good-to-go glow with zero downtime.
  2. Medium Peels: Often using TCA (Trichloroacetic Acid) to reach the papillary dermis. These target pigment issues, fine lines, and moderate sun damage.
  3. Deep (Phenol) Peels: The “Gold Standard” of resurfacing. Using a Phenol-Croton oil solution, this peel reaches the deep reticular dermis to erase aging in a single session.

What is the Chemical Peel procedure like?

A Controlled Evolution

The experience depends entirely on the depth of the peel. Superficial peels are a non-invasive, 30-minute addition to your self care routine.

However, for our medium and deep peels, the procedure is treated with medical precision. Deep Phenol Peels are performed under sedation. This ensures that while the transformation is deep, the experience is serene and safe.

Comprehensive Correction

What concerns do Chemical Peels address?

Our suite of peels addresses the full spectrum of skin concerns:

  • Texture & Tone: Smoothing rough patches and evening out “mottled” complexions.
  • Hyperpigmentation: Fading melasma, sun spots, and age-related discoloration.
  • Acne & Scarring: Clearing active congestion and diminishing the appearance of pitted scars.
  • Advanced Aging: Erasing deep “smoker’s lines” and leathery sun damage (specifically via the Phenol Peel).

What are the benefits of Chemical Peels?

Precision Exfoliation Tailored to You

The primary benefit of a chemical peel is the cellular “restart” it provides. By shedding layers of environmental damage, we reveal a more resilient, luminous version of your skin.

Chemical peels offer a unique “lift” and tightening effect, especially at deeper levels. Patients report a significant boost in vitality and well-being as they see imperfections simply peel away to reveal a porcelain-like finish.

Is a Chemical Peel right for me?

Because we offer every level of intensity, almost everyone is a candidate for some form of chemical resurfacing. Light peels are safe for all skin types, while medium and deep Phenol Peels require a specific skin-type assessment (typically Fitzpatrick I-III) and a medical consultation. Phenol Peels are performed under the care of Dr. Cory Goldberg in accordance with the strictest safety standards. Your provider will analyze your skin type, skin history, and lifestyle to choose the peel that fits your downtime availability and aesthetic goals.

Chemical Peel Recovery

For light peels, you simply leave with a glow. For TCA and Phenol Peels, we utilize our FORM recovery suite of treatments. This includes numerous wellness and recovery options, including Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy to feed your healing cells and red light stimulation to reduce redness.

Chemical Peel Results

Light peels show immediate brightness. Medium peels reveal new skin in 5–7 days. The deep Phenol Peel requires 10–14 days for the initial reveal, with final tightening results maturing over several months. While light peels are for maintenance, the results of a Deep Phenol Peel are long-lasting. Your skin will continue to age naturally, but the facial aging “clock” is turned back, often by years. Using daily SPF and high-quality skincare products helps you preserve your skin’s optimal health and radiance over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

For light peels, you may only notice light flaking. For medium and deep Phenol peels, the skin will undergo a significant shedding process. This is a controlled, healthy part of the healing journey.

We offer specific superficial and medium peels (like salicylic blends) that are safe for darker skin tones. Deep Phenol peels are generally reserved for lighter skin types to avoid pigment changes.

We often put patients on a “pre-conditioning” skincare regimen for 2–4 weeks prior to a medium or deep peel to ensure the skin is healthy and ready for a uniform result.

When performed by our double-board-certified surgeons in a monitored clinical setting, it is very safe. We take every precaution—from cardiac monitoring to specialized post-care—to ensure a world-class outcome.
